Yes. In 1969, the Vatican itself officially said Mary Magdalene's the bible's story is false.  It was made up by Pope Gregory I in 591 AD during an Easter Mass "mash-up" of women from the bible. But they've NEVER offered the alternative or real story. 

In 2016, the Vatican officially stated that she was not only NOT a prostitute, but she was a wealthy noble woman and "The Apostle of the Apostle", or "the Teacher of all the Teachers". In other words, in "Vatican speak", she was the person who knew the most and would have carried on Jesus's teachings as the first pope of the "Church".

Where the bible story ends, it picks up in France.  She lands in the South and begins teaching the true version of Ascension.   It's the Apostle Peter— who evidence suggests was misogynistic against women and jealous of Mary Magdalene — who built the Catholic Church. Doctrine and stories were edited and re-shaped over 2000 years.
